Print image resizer: set the size at 300 DPI
Print needs more pixels than a screen. If you tell a printer an image will be six inches wide, a sharp result needs about 1800 pixels across. This tool sets an image to exactly that.
Choose an image, enter the print width and height, and the tool calculates the pixel size for 300 DPI. It draws the image at that size in your browser and offers a download as PNG or JPEG. Nothing is sent to a server.
Be careful with small images: enlarging adds pixels but not detail, so the tool warns you when it has to scale up. The image is stretched to fit the size you enter, so use matching proportions or crop first. Resizing is most useful for shrinking oversized photos so your PDF stays small.
How to use it
- Choose an image file.
- Enter the print size and keep 300 DPI.
- Download the resized file and place it in your book.
Worked example
6 × 9 in at 300 DPI is 1800 × 2700 pixels.
Questions
- Is my image uploaded?
- No. Resizing uses your browser's canvas.
- PNG or JPEG?
- PNG for line art and text, JPEG for photographs where a smaller file matters.
- Will it keep the proportions?
- It stretches to the size you enter, so choose a size with the same proportions as the image.
- Does it embed the DPI value?
- No. Print software uses the pixel size and the placed size, not a stored value.
Files you choose here are processed in your browser and are not uploaded.
