HTML to Markdown converter

When you copy content from a web page or an old document, you get HTML. To move it into a Markdown book you need to convert it, and you do not want to carry over scripts or tracking code.

Paste the HTML. The converter keeps only a short list of safe tags: headings, paragraphs, emphasis, links, images, lists, quotes, code, tables and line breaks. Scripts, styles, frames, forms and event attributes are dropped, and links or images with unsafe addresses are removed. The tool tells you how many items it dropped.

Nothing is executed or loaded: the HTML is parsed into an inert document in your browser. Complex layouts, such as nested tables or columns made with divs, become plain paragraphs, so check the result and tidy it. Images keep their addresses, so remember to download them for a book.

How to use it

  1. Paste the HTML.
  2. Check how many items were dropped.
  3. Copy the Markdown and tidy it.

Worked example

Gives a ## heading and bold text; the script is removed.
