PDF to Markdown converter
PDFs are designed for fixed visual printing rather than easy editing, making text extraction notoriously tedious. This tool parses your PDF document and reconstructs a structured, editable Markdown manuscript with clean headings, paragraphs, and lists.
Our layout analyzer inspects font sizes, weights, and line spacing to distinguish chapter titles, section headers, bullet lists, and block paragraphs. It strips hard line wraps while maintaining genuine paragraph breaks, and places unobtrusive page break comments so you can cross-reference original page numbers.
The conversion runs quickly on your PDF file and deletes it immediately after generating the Markdown output. Preview the text, copy it directly to your clipboard, or download the formatted .md file to start editing in your favorite Markdown editor or turn it into a book.
How to use it
- Upload or drag and drop your PDF document (up to 20 MB).
- Click Convert to Markdown to analyze document layout and extract structured text.
- Review the generated Markdown preview, copy to clipboard, or download the .md file.
Worked example
Upload an article or e-book PDF to receive a structured Markdown file with detected headings and cleaned paragraph flows.
Questions
- How does the converter identify headings?
- It analyzes font sizes, weights, line positions, and title case patterns across the document to map text to corresponding Markdown #, ##, and ### heading levels.
- Are scanned PDFs or images supported with OCR?
- The tool extracts text from digital and searchable PDFs. Scanned image-only PDFs without an embedded text layer must be OCR-processed before converting.
- Are original page numbers preserved?
- Yes. The converter inserts clear HTML comments like <!-- Page 1 of 12 --> between pages, making it easy to cite or trace content back to the original PDF.
- Is my PDF uploaded securely?
- Yes. Files are uploaded over HTTPS, processed in memory and temporary sandboxes, and deleted immediately once conversion is complete.
