Markdown diff: compare two drafts

When you revise a chapter it is useful to see exactly what changed. Paste the old draft on one side and the new draft on the other.

The tool compares the two texts line by line using the longest common subsequence method, the same idea used by version control tools. Added lines are marked in green with a plus, removed lines in red with a minus, and unchanged lines are shown plainly. Counts of added, removed and unchanged lines are shown above.

The comparison is by whole line, so changing one word marks the whole line as replaced. Very large texts are refused to keep your browser responsive; compare one chapter at a time. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Paste the old draft on the left.
  2. Paste the new draft on the right.
  3. Read the marked changes.

Worked example

One line is replaced and one line is added.
