Markdown to plain text converter

Sometimes you need the words without the symbols: pasting into a form, an email or a character-limited field. This tool removes the Markdown formatting and leaves readable text.

Heading marks, bold and italic markers, code ticks, list bullets, quote marks and table pipes are removed or simplified. Links keep their address in brackets after the text, images keep their alt text, and line breaks are preserved. Code block contents are kept as they are.

The result is plain text, not a faithful copy of the layout: tables lose their grid and numbering of ordered lists is kept as typed. If you want a clean text file of a whole book instead, the TXT output is planned for a later release of MarkdownBooks.

How to use it

  1. Paste the Markdown.
  2. Copy the plain text.
  3. Paste it where you need it.

Worked example

Becomes: Title, then Bold and a link (https://example.com).
