Markdown table formatter

Markdown tables are easy to read when the columns line up and painful when they do not. After editing a cell, the pipes drift out of place, and a long table becomes hard to maintain.

Paste your table, including the separator row of dashes. The tool pads every cell to the width of the widest one in its column, keeps the alignment markers (:--- for left, :---: for centre, ---: for right) and writes the table back in neat form. Rows with too few or too many cells are padded or cut to match the header, and you are told when that happens.

The result renders the same as before; only the source text changes. Escaped pipes (\|) inside a cell are kept. Wide characters such as some emoji or CJK text may look off in a monospace editor but still render correctly.

How to use it

  1. Paste the table, with its separator row.
  2. Copy the formatted result.
  3. Replace the table in your file.

Worked example

The columns are padded so the pipes line up, and Qty stays right-aligned.

Questions

Does it keep alignment?
Yes. Left, centre and right markers are preserved.
What if a row has a different cell count?
It is padded or cut to match the header, and the tool says so.
Can it parse a table without a separator row?
No. The second line must be the separator.
Is my table uploaded?
No.
