Print-ready PDF
Choose Print-ready PDF (or Both) under PDF options to get a file prepared for a printer.
What it contains
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Trim size | 6 × 9 in or A5 (you choose) |
| Bleed | 3 mm on every side |
| Crop marks | Optional. Adds an 8 mm margin with marks at the trim corners. |
| Fonts | Embedded in the file |
The PDF has a TrimBox (the final cut size) and a BleedBox set, so printers and checking tools can read them.
The free-plan credit line, Generated by markdownbooks.com, is placed 5 mm above the trim edge and 7 mm in from it, so it stays inside the finished page and clear of the bleed and crop marks.
Preflight report
After conversion the progress page shows a preflight table:
- Page count against the limit
- Page size against the expected size, including bleed and marks
- Trim box width
- Bleed amount
- Fonts embedded
A line marked Check means something does not match what was expected.
Not PDF/X
The file is labelled Print-ready, not PDF/X certified. Some printers require PDF/X. If yours does, ask what they accept before you order. The basics (trim, bleed, embedded fonts) are what most print-on-demand services ask for.
Before you order
- Check the page count. Your printer decides the spine width from it. Use the spine width calculator.
- Compare the page size with your printer's requirements using the PDF page size checker.
- Order a proof copy before a large run.
