Choosing a template
Templates control how the PDF looks. EPUB, Word and HTML use one default style each. Pick a template under PDF options on the upload form. A preview of the title page and a chapter page appears when you select one.
| Template | Good for | Look |
|---|---|---|
| Classic | General non-fiction, essays, memoirs | Serif text, running heads, centred title page, red chapter rule |
| Novel | Fiction | Indented paragraphs, centred chapter titles, scene breaks from --- |
| Technical | Manuals and guides | Numbered sections, "Chapter N" labels, running chapter heads, tinted quote boxes |
| Programming | Books with lots of code | Monospaced headings, roomy code blocks, tinted inline code, tighter margins |
| Academic | Reports and theses | Numbered sections, justified text, formal title page, wide margins |
| Minimal | Anything plain | Left-aligned text, no running heads or decoration |
Notes
- Templates with numbered sections (Technical, Programming, Academic) number your
#,##and###headings for you. Do not type numbers into the headings. - All templates work with both the screen and the print-ready PDF.
- More templates may be added over time. The picker always shows the ones available now.
